The league held their presentation night at the
Bond Club last Thursday with Guest professional Lionel Sams taking
the stage for an exhibition and to present the trophies.
We did have one game to play, division one
singles champion between Paul McDine from the Flying Dutchman and
Dean Deadman from the Queen Phillipa. It was a hard game with
McDine winning the first leg and Deadman taking the second but
McDine pulled out all the stops to win by winning the next two legs
to win the match 3-1.
We then went on to the sponsored head shave
(report sent separately).
Our Guest Lionel Sams then took the stage to play
some of our league winners. Unfortunately Lionel was suffering
badly with a back problem so struggled a lot but being a true
professional he did not want to let us down turned up to give what
was not his best performance, nevertheless a good night was had by
all. Jez Young was first to play him followed by Lee Steele and
Charlie Day who all lost but Paul McDine put up a great performance
and managed to win this was followed by Ricky OBrien who decided to
play Lionel kneeling down, he should play like this more often as he
hit several tons and ton plusses and then checked out on double one,
a great show or perhaps it was his new hairstyle inspired him. The
next two players Pat J Scurfield and John Fraser both lost to Sams.
The presentation took place next and then we had
four more players to play Lionel, these were decided by a raffle, of
the players to play him: Lee Townsend, Kevin Carlin, Fred Burton and
Tom Powell, Townsend was the only player to win although Carlin hit
two maximum 180s against him.
